Abandoned house fire lights up the evening sky

At approximately 01:00 this morning the Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire on 17 Ave and Stoney Trail SE. Due to the volume of visible fire, prior to arriving on scene, the responding Captain upgrade the call to a second alarm. A second alarm increases the number of apparatus responding to the call. The first arriving crew encountered what appeared to be a fully involved abandoned house. It was later confirmed that in fact the building was an old barn. The fire was quickly brought under control and contained to the building of origin; there were neither injuries nor fire damage to the adjacent buildings. Once it’s confirmed that the fire has been completely extinguished the investigation into the cause will commence. Crews will be on scene for the remainder of the night overhauling the remains of the barn looking for hot spots.
