Calgary Fire Department crews respond to flood call and evacuate the building.

At approximately 3:20 pm this afternoon the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to 300 block Shawville Blvd. SE. for a flood call.

Upon arrival, crews determined that water was leaking from the roof of the Walmart store. After investigating and checking the roof of the building there was concern about the amount of standing water and snow on top of the structure. CFD determined due to the conditions to evacuate the building and call for the Safety Response Unit (SRU). When the Safety Codes Officer arrived there was a water vacuum truck and steam truck already on scene removing the water and snow from the roof and attempting to thaw out the frozen pipes. The Safety Codes Officer decided that nobody would be allowed back into the building until Walmart’s engineers checked out the roof structure the next day on Wednesday March 28,, 2018
