2013 Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service today

The Calgary Fire Department is holding its 2013 Fallen Firefighter Memorial service today, Tuesday, September 10 at the Police Officers and Firefighters Tribute Plaza. The formal service brings together Calgary residents, firefighters and families to honour the 32 Calgary firefighters who lost their lives protecting others throughout the Department’s 128 year history.
 
Former Fire Chief Wayne Morris has been added this year to the list of those remembered. He is one of 23 Calgary firefighters who is recognized as having lost his life due to presumptive illness (illness presumed to be caused by firefighting). Chief Morris is known for being instrumental in having the Tribute Plaza built and for supporting firefighters and their families through the onset of illness.

Place: Police Officers and Firefighters Tribute Plaza, 800 Macleod Trail S.E. (In front of Calgary Municipal Building, west side)
 
 
Note: All Calgary fire stations will lower their flags to half-mast on September 10, from sunrise until sunset, in honour of fallen firefighters.
