2 Extricated From Fiery Motor Vehicle Collision

Just after 8 this evening the Calgary Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision on Macleod Trail and Southport Way SW. The first arriving crews were met with a collision involving a city transit bus with a sole uninjured driver and a badly damaged SUV. Further investigation revealed that 2 people were trapped in the vehicle and the engine compartment was fully involved with fire impinging into the passenger area. Quick action by the crew to control the fire and simultaneous extrication of the victims limited their injuries to those suffered in the collision. Both were transported by Alberta Health Services to an area hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Hazardous Material crews along with City Roads and Sewers assisted with the large diesel fuel spill that resulted from the crash.

Macleod Trail is currently closed to traffic between and will remain so while the Calgary Police Service conduct their investigation.
