Calgary Fire Department responds to school bus fire in north east

At approximately 8:15 this morning, Calgary fire crews responded to reports of a vehicle fire at 1st Street and 24th Avenue N.E. On arrival, firefighters encountered a school bus heavily involved in fire. The school bus driver had noticed smoke coming from the dash, so she quickly pulled over to the side of the road near a school and promptly evacuated all 12 children safely off of the bus. The children were taken into the school and cared for until a replacement bus could arrive to continue their commute. Firefighters extended hose lines and extinguished the fire, taking care to prevent any hazardous materials from entering the storm drain. No injuries were reported as a result of this fire thanks to the quick actions of the bus driver.
