Police release composite sketch of suspect in ISMAIL homicide

The Calgary Police Service is releasing a composite sketch of a man believed to be connected to a home invasion and homicide that occurred in February, in the hopes that someone will recognize the suspect.

At approximately 4:20 a.m., on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, police were called to the area of 12 Avenue N.E. and Centre Street N., after a man was found in medical distress in his stopped vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle with bullet holes in it and a deceased man inside.

The victim was later identified as Hussam Ahmad ISMAIL, 31, of Calgary.

Early in the investigation, police identified the victim’s home in the 200 block of 10 Avenue N.E., and now believe that a home invasion occurred there around the time of the homicide. However, it is unclear if it occurred before or after the shooting.

Police do not believe this to be a random incident.

Based on witness accounts, a composite sketch of a man believed to be involved in the home invasion has been created and police are asking anyone who knows the identity of the man to contact investigators.

A CCTV photo of a dark vehicle seen speeding away from the scene of the shooting is also being released in the hope it will generate tips, though the image is not very clear due to the speed of the vehicle.

Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to call the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877, the police non-emergency number 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers anonymously using either of the following methods:
