UPDATE #2 - Police investigate fatal shooting in Falconridge

Police are investigating two separate shootings that occurred this weekend in the northeast communities of Falconridge and Castleridge and have determined that they are connected.

On Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, one suspect was taken into custody and has since been charged in relation to both incidents.

Investigators believe the motive behind the shooting on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, was robbery and the victim and suspect were unknown to each other.

Investigators believe the deceased victim of the shooting on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, was known to the suspect. Police continue to investigate the motive behind this incident and the relationship between the victim and suspect. As this is an ongoing investigation further information will not be released to the public.

“Early in our investigation we noted similarities between these two cases. Due to the violent nature and proximity in time, public safety became a priority for us,” says Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson. “Our teams worked around the clock, and we employed numerous investigative resources from across the Service to find the suspect involved in these shootings. With this arrest, we have removed that threat from the community, ensuring the safety of the public.”

Taylor ROAN, 25, of Calgary, is charged with second degree murder for the Nov. 12, 2022 incident, and attempted murder and robbery with a firearm in relation to the Nov. 11, 2022 incident.

ROAN is next expected to appear in court on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022.

An autopsy occurred this morning and the victim has been identified as Nathan Ward, 41, of Calgary.

This will be Calgary’s 24th homicide of the year.
