Two people charged after incident at downtown market

We have charged two people following an incident that occurred at an outdoor market in the summer of 2025.

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, a large, erected LED screen was displaying marketing material to attendees of an outdoor market being held at 800 MacLeod Tr. S.E..

The screen was approximately 2 metres high, 3.5 metres wide and weighed 180 kgs.

Just before 3 p.m., the screen collapsed on the crowd, injuring eight people, including one child, who all required hospitalization.

The CPS launched a criminal investigation into the incident and have determined the collapse was the result of improper set-up and a failure to address changing weather and crowd conditions. As a result, two people have been charged.

Steve ADJUYA, 48, of Calgary is charged with:

·         One count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm

Ehis IDUOZEE, 41, of Calgary is charged with:

·         One count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm

Their next scheduled court appearance is Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026.
