Update #1: Police respond to incident involving equipment at downtown market

The investigation continues into an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon during the Naija Market Day, leaving eight people injured. Investigators are now asking for event attendees to provide any photos or videos of the incident to police in hopes of furthering the investigation.

At approximately 3 p.m., on, Saturday, June 28, 2025, we were called to City Hall Plaza, located at 800 Macleod Tr. S.E., for reports that equipment setup for an outdoor event, had collapsed and struck multiple individuals.

Upon arrival, our officers determined a light standard and TV screens had fallen, causing non-life-threatening injuries to seven adults and one youth. All eight individuals were transported to hospital.

Investigators are now asking anyone who attended the event and has photos or video footage in relation to the incident to contact police. Investigators are specifically asking for photos of the equipment setup and placement prior to the start of the event and photos or video footage of the collapse.
