Police seek public’s help in relation to northeast fatal collision
Our Traffic Unit continues to investigate after a collision resulted in the death of a man earlier today. Police are asking anyone who may have dashcam, CCTV or information about the incident to come forward.
At approximately 10:40 a.m., today, Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, police responded to reports of a serious collision at the intersection of 52 St. N.E. and 26 Ave. N.E.
It is believed a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by a man in his 20s, was travelling southbound on 52 St. N.E., and was stopped at a red light at 26 Ave. N.E.
At that time, a man in his 60s was crossing 52 St. N.E., heading eastbound, in the confines of the crosswalk. As the man was crossing the street, the traffic light turned green, and the Silverado proceeded through the intersection, striking the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver remained at the scene and was uninjured.
Neither speed nor impairment by drugs or alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in this collision.
