Downtown suspicious death deemed homicide

Following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Tuesday’s suspicious death has been deemed a homicide.

At approximately 9:40 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022, police responded to a complaint at an apartment building, located in the 200 block of 6 Avenue S.E. Upon arrival, officers located a man believed to be in his mid-20s deceased inside one of the units.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Marshall Mason RATH.

Two people have now been charged in relation to the homicide. 

Dominic HOOD, 29, and Jordan Curtis Vaughn SMITH, 27, are each charged with one count of second-degree murder. HOOD is next scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022. The next court date for SMITH is Friday, March 4, 2022.
