Delivering Value for Citizens – The City of Calgary’s 2018 Annual Report is now available

CALGARY – The City of Calgary’s 2018 Annual Report entitled “Delivering Value for Citizens” is now available for viewing on calgary.ca/annualreport.

The Annual Report is part of The City’s commitment to provide effective governance, increased accountability, transparency, and a well-run City. It provides a comprehensive view of the 2018 consolidated financial statements consistent with Canadian best practices applicable to municipalities.

“Throughout 2018 we took action to support economic recovery, keep Calgarians working and reduce the cost of local government. We focused our attention on ensuring The City of Calgary continues to be financially stable and fiscally responsible in delivering value for citizens. I am very proud to work every day with City colleagues who consistently demonstrate their commitment to public service and take pride in delivering quality services to Calgarians”, said Glenda Cole, City Manager.

Despite the changing economic environment, The City’s 2018 consolidated financial statements continued to reflect a strong financial picture of a municipality investing in infrastructure to facilitate economic growth, stimulate job creation and build a more resilient city. The report’s title – Delivering Value for Citizens – underscores our common purpose for more than 1.2 million Calgarians we take pride in serving.

Strong fiscal management is confirmed by The City maintaining its Double A+ and Double A high credit ratings - identified among the best for Canadian Municipalities by Standard & Poor’s and the Dominion Bond Rating Service respectively.

In 2018, The City was able to implement its business plans and budgets as approved by Council. The City is entering 2019 which is the first year of a four-year Service Plans and Budgets cycle and continues to work hard to recover and maintain its resilience by supporting the local economy through investments in social programs, infrastructure and transportation projects.

A new web page has been created called Delivering Value for Citizens (calgary.ca/deliveringvalue). The site will reflect The City’s commitment to economic recovery through work related to effectively and efficiently delivering services that matter most to Calgarians, managing our costs and making our organization as efficient as possible, and supporting Calgary business and the local economy.
