City launches city-wide engagement on Connect: Calgary’s Parks Plan

The City's Parks and Open Spaces is looking for feedback from citizens on a new 20-year plan for Calgary’s parks. Connect: Calgary’s Parks Plan will be the new guiding document on how The City will develop, redevelop, and manage parks in Calgary.

“It’s been 20 years since the last long-term plan was completed. The needs of Calgarians and our city have changed, so it’s time to do this work,” explained Anita O’Driscoll, Business and Policy Planner. “We want to deliver exceptional, sustainable, inclusive parks for all Calgarians— now, and for the future.”

There will be three rounds of city-wide public engagement focused on the themes of environment, culture and wellness – and how Calgarians connect with those themes through the City’s parks and green spaces.

Between now and May 19, 2023, Calgarians are invited to provide feedback online or through a number of in-person events throughout the city, hosted in every quadrant. There is also a strong focus on accessibility and inclusion to ensure the project team hears from equity-deserving groups and individuals.

“City-wide engagement with all Calgarians is vital for the success of this plan,” says O’Driscoll. “These public spaces are for everyone, are an essential part of a healthy, vibrant and resilient city, and bring huge environmental, social and economic benefits to Calgary; so we want to hear from as many folks as possible. We need your help to create a plan that works for our city, our environment, our communities and our future.”
