Calgary Fire Department accepting applications for qualified, community-minded recruits

The Calgary Fire Department is once again opening its application process for firefighter recruits. Anyone who meets the minimum requirements and is passionate about public safety and helping others is encouraged to apply online between November 1 – 30.

“We are looking for talented and capable people from Calgary and across Canada to join the Calgary Fire Department. Calgary is a large, dynamic and diverse community and we are seeking recruits who embody our values of Pride, Professionalism, Teamwork and Respect and reflect the community we serve.” said Kristin Boisjoli, Recruitment Coordinator.

Calgary firefighters respond to fires, emergency medical incidents, chemical and hazardous materials releases and motor vehicle collisions. In addition, firefighters can train to perform specialized rescues in high places or collapsed structures, in confined spaces, on our waterways and in situations caused by weather events.

The Calgary Fire Department has a ten-step recruitment process that contributes to their success in having achieved accredited agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.

In 1999, the Calgary Fire Department became the first Canadian fire service to receive accreditation. Today, it is the sixth-largest fire service in the world to be accredited and one of ten Canadian fire services to have received this prestigious designation. Of more than 30,000 fire agencies in North America, only 301 have achieved this status so far.

This hiring will fill vacancies left by retirement and turnover and will address staffing of new stations.

Anyone who is interested in a career in firefighting in a department that supports, respects and values their team members, and meets the minimum qualifications, can learn more or apply at calgary.ca/CFDYYC.
