Fatal collision - Country Hills Boulevard and Metis Trail

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal collision that took place overnight.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., today, Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, a 43-year-old male was driving a white Kia Forte, eastbound along Country Hills Boulevard, towards the Metis Trail intersection. The male was accompanied by three passengers.

At the same time, a 28-year-old female was driving a black Dodge Journey, northbound on Metis Trail towards the Country Hills Boulevard intersection. She was accompanied by two passengers.

The Kia Forte was stopped at a traffic signal and as the light changed to green it proceeded to enter the intersection. The Dodge Journey failed to stop at a red light and entered the intersection, striking the passenger side of the Kia.

The front seat passenger of the Kia was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and rear seat passengers were seriously injured.

The driver of the Dodge Journey was arrested on scene but has since been released pending further investigation.

The Traffic Section continues to investigate the circumstances of the collision, and believe that excessive speed and alcohol are both factors.
