Woman charged in Canyon Meadows homicide

Our Homicide Unit has charged a woman in her 50s with second-degree murder in relation to the death of her mother earlier this week.

At approximately 10:50 a.m., on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, police were called to a residence located in the 13000 block of Canterbury Gardens S.W., for reports of a deceased woman in her 80s.

An autopsy conducted by The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, identified the woman as 83-year-old Sharon Helene ROBERTS and deemed the death a homicide.

Investigators believed that this incident was domestic in nature, and yesterday, Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, the victim’s daughter was taken into custody from a residence located in the 0 to 100 block of Stradwick Rise S.W.

Tonnya MARISSE, 52, of Calgary, has now been charged with one count of second-degree murder. She will next appear in court on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026.

Police are not looking for any additional suspects and to respect the privacy of the family, no further details will be released.
