Voting now open for the Mayor's Urban Design Awards People's Choice category

Calgarians are invited to cast their vote for their selection in the People’s Choice category of the Mayor’s Urban Design Awards (MUDA). The City of Calgary wants to know what Calgarians think and through the People Choice Award, Calgarians will have their say for their favourite urban design. There are 12 categories of the award and all recipients, except the People’s Choice category, are selected by a panel of industry jurors.

There are over 98 submissions this year. To make help make it convenient and easier, Calgarians may view the submissions online at calgary.ca/muda or in person at the Calgary Central Library. Voting, online only, is now open until Oct. 21, 2019.

The Mayor’s Urban Design Awards is a biennial awards program which recognizes the contribution of Calgary urban designers, architects, landscape architects, and artists to the livability of our city. They leave a legacy of high calibre urban design, buildings and public spaces, and help set the standard for future municipal planning and development.

“The Mayor’s Urban Design awards are important because they give a chance to recognize excellence in urban design, to demonstrate its importance to the general public and to help generate discussion about urban design and architecture,” said David Down, Architect/Chief Urban Designer and Coordinator of City Wide Urban Design.

The winners and honorable mentions will be announced at the MUDA Gala event which is held on Oct 24, 2019, at the Central Library. Gala award tickets are still available for purchase. Everyone is welcome to attend.
