Victim identified in Cranston homicide

Investigators continue to investigate the death of a woman in the community of Cranston and have now deemed it a homicide.

At approximately 2:50 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, we were called to the 500 block of Cranston Drive S.E., for reports of a medical event. Upon arrival, officers found a woman in a parked vehicle who was later pronounced deceased on scene.

An autopsy was completed today by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which identified the victim as 35-year-old Norma-Jean MUIRHEAD, of Calgary and B.C.

MUIRHEAD is Calgary’s 19th homicide victim of 2021.

The investigation is ongoing; however, we believe that the victim was targeted.

“We believe this homicide took place in the victim’s vehicle which was parked in a residential community and someone may have seen the events leading up to, or right after, the victim’s death,” said Staff Sergeant Lee Treit, Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “We are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour or witnessed a disturbance in the area between midnight and 6 a.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 1, to contact police.”

Anyone with information about this homicide, or who may have seen suspicious activity in the area in the early hours of Dec. 1, is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
