Update: Police issue warning after random sexual assault

We continue to ask the public to come forward with information in relation to a random sexual assault that occurred earlier this month, as it is now believed the same suspect has committed several indecent acts while exposing himself to unknown citizens.

At approximately 12:55 a.m., on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2024, three women were walking to a residence in the 900 block of Ridge Road S.W., along a pathway, when a nude, unknown man suddenly grabbed one of the women in a sexual nature. The woman was able to break free and contact police.

As the investigation into the sexual assault progressed, police now believe the same suspect is responsible for several other sexually motivated indecent acts that have occurred in the city’s southwest and downtown throughout the summer.

Between Sunday, July 7, 2024, and Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, police received three additional reports in relation to indecent exposure and flashing incidents that are believed to involve the same suspect. Victims have reported instances of walking along public pathways and being startled by a man who jumps out of the bushes while naked, and being flashed by a man while walking downtown.

Investigators believe the suspect is often nude or partially clothed and prowls or hides in yards, alleys, and public green spaces during the late evening and very early morning hours.

The suspect is described as male, with a light-to-medium skin tone, a medium build, in his mid-30 with black hair and a beard or facial stubble.

Police are asking citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or behaviour immediately by calling 9-1-1.
