UPDATE: Police investigate fatal shooting in Vista Heights

The victim of the fatal shooting that occurred yesterday, Thursday, May 18, 2023, has now been identified, and charges have been laid against a Calgary man.

At approximately 5:35 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023, we responded to reports of a shooting in the 2500 block of 23 Street N.E. Upon arrival, police located one man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. His condition has since been upgraded to stable and he remains in hospital.

Shortly after the shooting, officers responded to two collisions that are believed to be related to the shooting. One of the collisions occurred in the 2700 block of 23 Street N.E. Upon arrival, officers located one man who also appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An autopsy was completed today, Friday, May 19, 2023, by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which confirmed the identity of the deceased man as Graeme Lee MCCOLM, 41.

The second collision occurred near the intersection of 26 Street N.E. and Sunridge Boulevard N.E. Officers responded and quickly took one man into custody.

As a result of the investigation, Tyler James REDDEN, 26, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, May 26, 2023.
