Update on fatal dog attack: Dangerous Dogs Act application submitted to Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta for filing

The City of Calgary has submitted an application to the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, to be filed under the Dangerous Dogs Act. This application is in relation to the fatal dog attack that occurred on Sunday, June 5, 2022. Upon filing, a court date for the application to be heard will be scheduled.

On June 5, 2022 emergency responders attended the 1500 block of 21 Avenue N.W., for reports of an 86-year-old woman being attacked by three unknown dogs. EMS transported the woman to hospital in life-threatening condition, but sadly she died a short time later.

Community peace officers subsequently seized the three dogs involved in the attack, and the animals continue to be held pending the outcome of the Dangerous Dog Act application.

The Dangerous Dogs Act application deals only with the disposition of the dogs and requests that the Court order the dogs involved in the incident to be humanely euthanized.

The Calgary Police Service and Calgary Community Standards continue investigating this incident. More information will be released when the investigations are complete.
