Update on evacuee registrations in Calgary – August 2

CALGARY – The City of Calgary continues working with partners to support wildfire evacuees to provide access to accommodations and other supports for people and pets evacuating from Jasper. As of Aug. 2 at 9 a.m., 1,575 evacuees have registered in Calgary.

Evacuees are still encouraged to register with the province. If accommodation is needed, individuals can register at the Calgary Reception Centre at the Shouldice Arena (1515 Home Rd. N.W.). The reception centre hours are 8 a.m. to midnight today. Beginning Saturday, Aug. 3, our reception centre will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. If evacuees arrive after those hours they are encouraged to call 311 for assistance.

Information on the Canadian Red Cross one-time financial assistance of $750 for Jasper evacuees can be found at www.redcross.ca/albertawildfires or by calling 1-800-863-6582 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. MT.

The City offers fun, free activities for children, youth, adults and families. These safe, supervised programs are great for making new friends and learning new activities. Evacuees from Jasper are welcome to participate in these programs. Please visit calgary.ca/free for more information.
