Update: Man dies following assault at southeast Calgary restaurant

We have charged a man following the death of Adonai TEKLE, that occurred earlier this week following an assault at a restaurant in the city’s southeast.

At approximately 6:20 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, a group of individuals were attending an after-hours party at a restaurant located in the 2800 block of 17 Avenue S.E., when an altercation occurred between two men. The altercation escalated and multiple other individuals became involved, causing a large confrontation and during the incident, the victim was struck in the head.

On Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, the victim, succumbed to his injuries, and following an autopsy completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, was identified as 24-year-old Adonai TEKLE.

As a result, Dawit Desta YOSIEF, 24, of Calgary, is charged with one count of manslaughter.

YOSIEF remains in custody and will next appear in court on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025.
