Man dies following assault at southeast Calgary restaurant
Our Homicide Unit is investigating after a man, who was injured in a fight earlier this week, has died.
At approximately 6:20 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, a group of individuals were attending an after-hours party at a restaurant located in the 2800 block of 17 Avenue S.E., when an altercation occurred between two men. The altercation escalated and multiple other individuals became involved, causing a large confrontation. During the incident, one man, who was attempting to calm the situation, was struck in the head.
Approximately 40 minutes later, two friends of the victim transported him to a residence in Marlborough, where he was later picked up by a family member. Several hours later, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the victim was found unresponsive and was transported to hospital by Emergency Medical Services.
On Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, the victim succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy was conducted by The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the victim has been identified as Adonai TEKLE, 24.
Investigators have taken one man into custody and charges are pending.
