Update #2 – Charges laid in fatal shooting outside Ambassador Restaurant

Our Homicide Unit continues to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred in the community of Radisson Heights last month.

At approximately 4:40 a.m., on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, we were called for reports of gunshots at the Ambassador Restaurant and Bar, located at 3504 17 Avenue S.E. Upon arrival, our officers located a man suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound and began life-saving measures. Sadly, the victim, identified as Temesgen TESFATSION, succumbed to his injuries on scene.

After reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses, we have identified a suspect who is now wanted on Canada-wide warrants.

Filimon Asmelash ASFIHA, 34, is charged with second-degree murder in relation to the death of Mr. Tesfatsion.

ASFIHA is described as 5’11” tall, with a medium build and short black hair. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact police.

“We would like to thank community members for coming forward to support our investigation,” said Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “We know citizens are upset and angry with the recent violence we have seen in our city and appreciate their support with moving this investigation forward. We believe someone was being targeted that night, however, we believe Temesgen was an innocent victim in this tragic event and not the intended target. We offer our deepest condolences to Temesgen’s friends and family and are doing all we can to locate the accused.”

Anyone who has information about this incident, or who knows the whereabouts of ASFIHA, is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
