Police investigate suspicious death and provide update on two fatal shooting incidents
Our Major Crimes Section has been extremely busy investigating several recent deaths and incidents that have occurred in our city. We are looking for public assistance to further our investigations into a suspicious death in Crescent Heights and two fatal shootings.
In addition to a significant amount of work for our homicide investigators, resources across the Service have been impacted with the additional tasks of collecting evidence, speaking to witnesses, conducting interviews and locating suspects.
Police seek public assistance in suspicious death in Crescent Heights
We are asking for the public’s help to provide information about a woman who was found deceased last week in the northeast community of Crescent Heights.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, police were called to the 200 block of 14 Avenue N.E., for reports of an unknown body that was found at an abandoned residence, which is scheduled for demolition later this month.
Following an autopsy from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the victim has been identified as 55-year-old Rhonda WAITE, who also goes by Rhonda JOROSZEK.
Investigators believe the circumstances around the death of WAITE to be suspicious, and it is believed she died several days before her body was discovered.
“We are seeking information from anyone who knew the victim, was in recent contact with her, or knows who she has recently been associated with,” says Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.
Update: Victim of fatal Radisson Heights shooting identified
Our Homicide Unit continues to investigate a shooting that occurred in the community of Radisson Heights at the Ambassador Restaurant and Bar.
At approximately 4:40 a.m., on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, we were called for reports of gunshots at the Ambassador Restaurant and Bar, located at 3504 17 Avenue S.E.
Upon arrival, our officers located a man suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound and began life-saving measures. Sadly, the victim succumbed to his injuries on scene.
An autopsy was completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, and the man has been identified as Temesgen TESFATSION, 35, of Calgary.
“Our investigators are in the process of reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses associated with the location and those who were present that night,” says Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “We believe this was a targeted attack within the restaurant, and are exploring the motive behind the shooting and whether the target was the victim or one of his associates. We encourage anyone with information about this incident or the suspect to contact police or report tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.”
The male suspect is described as approximately 30 years old, 6’2” tall, with a medium build and short black hair.
Update: Fatal shooting in Evergreen
Our Homicide Unit continues to investigate the fatal shooting of Nakita BARON, 31, of Calgary, that occurred on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022. The second victim remains in hospital in stable condition.
We continue to investigate the incident, analyze evidence and review CCTV footage from the area the shooting occurred.
Investigators previously released CCTV photos of a man believed to be involved in the incident and we are once again asking for the public’s assistance to identify the man.
