UPDATE #2 - Fatal shooting in Martindale

We continue to investigate the targeted, fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, April 29, 2023, and ask the public for any related information.

On Saturday, April 29, 2023, at approximately 3 p.m., we were called to the northeast community of Martindale for reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, we located a male victim deceased at the scene. Two additional victims were transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Following an autopsy that was completed yesterday, Monday, May 1, 2023, by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, we can now confirm the identity of the deceased victim as James Allan FEENEY, 33 of Calgary. He died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

The two other shooting victims remain in hospital in stable condition.

“This is a tragic incident which appears to have resulted from a senseless confrontation and has now left one person dead and two others injured.  We continue to pursue all tips and information from the public and have been working around the clock to hold those involved responsible”, says Staff Sgt. Gregson of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. 

On Monday, May 1, 2023, a search warrant was executed on a residence in the 100 block of Martindale Drive N.E. The search for evidence is continuing today, Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

This homicide remains under investigation, and we are asking the public to come forward with any information related to this incident.

Family statement:

We are the family of James Feeney and we are deeply saddened by our sudden and tragic loss. James Feeney was taken from us too soon and we are devastated by this senseless act of violence.

We are reaching out to the community to ask for any information that could help the police with their investigation into James Feeney’s murder. If anyone saw or heard anything that could be related to this incident, we urge you to come forward and share what you know. Your assistance could be crucial in bringing justice for James Feeney and closure for our family.
