Update – Crescent Heights homicide

Our homicide unit continues to investigate the death of a man in the community of Crescent Heights which marks Calgary’s ninth homicide of the year.

On Friday, April 1, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., unknown offenders fired multiple rounds of gunfire into a parked vehicle located in an alleyway near 301 16 Avenue N.W. It is believed the offender(s) then fled the scene in a vehicle eastbound on 16 Avenue N., towards Edmonton Trail N.E. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was declared deceased by emergency responders a short time later.

An autopsy was completed today, April 5, 2022, and the victim has been identified as Majed Ahmed ZULFIQAR, 26, of Calgary. It has been determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that the victim died as a result of gunshot injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information will be released at this time.

Anyone who may have dashcam footage from either eastbound or westbound 16 Avenue N., between 10 Street N.W. and Deerfoot Trail N.E., between 8 and 9 p.m. on April 1, or any other information about this homicide, is asked to contact the police non-emergency number at 403-266-1234.
