Police investigating third suspicious death in two days

Our homicide unit is currently on the scene of a suspicious death of a man in the community of Crescent Heights. This is the third suspicious death in two days, with two scenes currently being held by investigators. 

This evening, Friday, April 1, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the victim and a friend exited Jerusalem Shawarma at 1608 2 Street N.W. and headed to their parked vehicle in the alley behind the restaurant. While they were sitting in a black SUV, unknown offenders appeared and fired multiple rounds of gunfire into the vehicle. After a man in his 20s suffered multiple gunshot wounds, the driver began to drive away from the scene towards the hospital while calling 9-1-1 for help. The SUV came to a stop at 16 Avenue N.E. and Deerfoot Trail N.E. at approximately 8:54 p.m., where emergency responders attended. One man was declared deceased on the scene. 

An autopsy date will be determined later this week. 

It is too early in the investigation to know if this suspicious death is linked to the other two deaths currently under investigation.
