Update - Police seek assistance to identify man after public sexual assault

One man has been charged after the sexual assault of a woman last month in the southwest community of Glenbrook.

On Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, at approximately 12:30 p.m., the victim was exiting a store after shopping at the Richmond Square shopping centre, located at 3915 51 Street S.W., when an unknown man approached her and requested a photo. The victim agreed to the photo and the man proceeded to touch her in a sexual manner without her consent. The victim was able to flee to a nearby store and request assistance.

After both a tip from Crime Stoppers and a member of the public called our non-emergency line in relation to the man, police were able to identify a suspect and charge him in relation to the sexual assault.

Sandeep KATARIA, 37, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of sexual assault. He will next appear in court Monday, Dec. 18, 2023.
