Two men charged in arson at local deli

We have charged two men in relation to an arson that occurred at a local deli in the city’s northeast, earlier this year.

In the early morning hours on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, it is believed a fire was intentionally set at Alberta Halal Meat & Iraqi Street Food, located at 3745 Memorial Drive N.E.

At the time, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) attended the scene and extinguished the fire, which was deemed suspicious, and our Arson Unit began an investigation.

As a result, we have charged two men believed to be responsible for the incident.

Gabriel Maurice KANDALAFT, 18, of Calgary, is charged with one count of arson.

He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025.

We have also charged David Carlton DEVEAU, 49, of Calgary, with one count of arson and one count of break and enter in relation to this incident. He is currently wanted on warrants, and we are asking for the public’s help to locate him.

DEVEAU is described as about 5’10” tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with a slim build, light-brown hair and blue eyes.
