Two charged after police seize firearm and stolen vehicle

Two people have been charged and one firearm has been seized after an investigation into a stolen vehicle. 

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, at approximately 10 a.m., we received a report from OnStar alerting investigators to a stolen vehicle being tracked remotely that was headed towards Calgary from Okotoks. OnStar was able to remotely turn on the hazard lights, resulting in two individuals stopping the vehicle in a parking lot, fleeing on foot and discarding a loaded shotgun into a nearby snowbank. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspects were taken into custody by officers. 

A search of the occupants and stolen vehicle resulted in the seizure of stolen identification, credit cards, several rounds of ammunition and a sawed-off shotgun. 

Adrienne Elizabeth VISSER, 25, has been charged with: 

• Two counts of careless storage of a firearm 
• One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm 
• One count of unauthorized possession of firearm in a motor vehicle 
• One count of possession of a loaded firearm 
• One count of possession of body armour 
• One count of possession of stolen property over $5,000 
• Three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 
• One count of possession of identification 
• Eight counts of possession of stolen credit cards 
• Two counts of failure to comply with a release order 
• One count of possession of break-in instruments 
• 22 outstanding warrants 

Dalton Bennett WINNIPEG-DARLING, 23, has been charged with: 

• One count of motor vehicle theft 
• One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm 
• One count of possession of a prohibited firearm 
• One count of possession of a loaded firearm 
• Three counts of possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order 
• One count of possession of crystal meth 
• One count of possession of body armour 
• One count of driving while disqualified 
• 12 counts of failure to comply with a release order 
• One count of possession of break-in instruments 
• Seven outstanding warrants 

“We would like to thank the many units from across the Service, as well as our partner agencies that worked quickly and efficiently to successfully locate and arrest the suspects,” said Calgary Police Service Inspector Shannon Scott. “By working together, we took another crime gun and several rounds of ammunition off the streets.”
