Suspicious death from August 2022 now believed to be a homicide

Our Homicide Unit continues to investigate a suspicious death that occurred in the community of Crescent Heights in August 2022.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, police were called to the 200 block of 14 Avenue N.E., for reports of an unknown body that was found at an abandoned residence. At the time, investigators believed the death was suspicious and it is believed the woman died several days before her body was discovered.

Following an autopsy completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in August 2022, the victim was identified as 54-year-old Rhonda WAITE, who also went by Rhonda JOROSZEK.

As the investigation has continued over the last two and a half years, witnesses have come forward to police to provide information in relation to the death, and based on this evidence, it is now believed to be a homicide.

We are looking to speak to anyone with information in relation to the death of Rhonda, or who may have had contact with her prior to her death.

Anyone who was in the 200 block of 14 Avenue N.E., or who was around the residence where Rhonda’s body was located in August 2022, is asked to contact police.

The residence has since been demolished, however photos of the property’s appearance in August 2022 are available.

“We are urging the community, and anyone with information about Rhonda’s death to come forward so we can provide answers to her family,” says Staff Sgt. Mark Rahn of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “Even though two and a half years have passed, any information about Rhonda can have a significant impact on the investigation. We have been in contact with some witnesses, but believe there are more individuals who have information in relation to this homicide.”
