Stolen firearm and drugs seized in drug-trafficking investigation
A Calgary man faces more than a dozen charges following an extensive drug-trafficking investigation that resulted in the seizure and removal of a stolen handgun and more than $32,000 worth of drugs from the community of Cranston.
In February 2024, police became aware of a man and a vehicle believed to be involved in drug trafficking. A District 8 patrol officer and the District Operation Team (DOT) were engaged to advance the investigation and observed the suspect conducting activity consistent with drug trafficking on several occasions while driving a white 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
On Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, officers executed a search warrant for a residence and two vehicles, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee, at a property in the 0 to 100 block of Cramond Green S.E. During the search, a hidden compartment containing cash, drugs and a handgun was discovered on the back side of the front passenger seat of the Jeep. The search resulted in the seizure of the following items, which included more than $50,000 worth of drugs and cash and a stolen firearm:
- 590 grams of marijuana
- 490 grams of psilocybin
- 87 grams of cocaine
- 61 grams of methamphetamine
- 77 oxycodone pills
- Eight ecstasy pills
- A loaded 9mm Norinco pistol
- $19,825 in cash
- Two cans of bear spray
- 2020 white Jeep Grand Cherokee
- 2011 white GMC Sierra 2500
As a result of the investigation, 27-year-old Robert Maurice STONE, of Calgary, was taken into custody and has been charged with:
- Eight counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Careless storage of a firearm
- Knowing possession of an unlicensed weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon and ammunition in a motor vehicle
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a restricted weapon obtained by crime
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024.
“We were able to take a dangerous firearm and drugs out of the community thanks to the great police work of multiple areas of the Service,” said Staff Sgt. Andrea Koolick of the Calgary Police Service District 8 General Investigations Unit. “We will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle drug-trafficking operations, whether it be through apprehension of individual suspects or halting larger networks, to ensure the safety and well-being of Calgarians.”
