Shining a light on operators for Thank Your Driver Day

Thank Your Drvier Day News ReleaseAt Calgary Transit, our operators are the heart of our organization and work tireless to keep Calgarians on the move safely and efficiently to their destination. We encourage Calgarians to show their appreciation for our 2,000-plus hard-working bus, CTrain, shuttle and Access operators for international Thank Your Driver Day on March 18.

Every weekday more than half a million Calgarians get around the city with the help of our drivers. This week is the perfect opportunity to express gratitude and let your local transit workers know how much you appreciate them:

  • Use the hashtag #ThanksCT on Twitter @CalgaryTransit.
  • Call Customer Information at 403-262-1000 and leave a commendation for a transit worker.
  • Have a specific story to share? Submit it here

Transit Operators do so much more than simply drive. They ensure passenger safety, keep to a schedule, remember stop requests, answer questions, and give directions all while maneuvering large vehicles through unpredictable traffic, detours, adverse weather and tight spaces.

Transit Access Operators are a lifeline for their customers, helping people with disabilities and special needs get to the places and people that matter to them. To honour the significant contributions and dedication by Transit workers, the Calgary Tower will shine bright red on March 18.

Did you know the Thank Your Driver Day origin story? In 1662, carrosses à cinq sols were the first modern forms of public transport run using horse and carriage along five main routes in Paris. March 18 was selected to commemorate this historic line and the workers who developed it.
