Search continues for suspects in Tuesday’s homicide

Through an extensive review of CCTV, dashcam footage and witness information, homicide detectives have identified a vehicle believed to be involved in a homicide that occurred on Tuesday morning. We are asking for the public’s help to locate the vehicle and its registered owner.

At approximately 8:50 a.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, we were called to the intersection of 36 Street N.E., and Memorial Drive, for reports that a man was found dead after exiting a vehicle, that was stopped at a red light. Police and EMS were dispatched, however the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been completed by The Office of The Chief Medical Examiner and the victim has been identified as David BAWDEN, 59, of Calgary.

Investigators have reviewed a significant amount of CCTV and dashcam footage and have identified the vehicle, however are looking for the public’s help to locate it. Police are also making attempts to locate the vehicle’s registered owner. The vehicle is a silver 2019 to 2020 Volkswagen Jetta, bearing AB licence plate CHG 6058, and has a unique bumper sticker on the rear bumper, under the licence plate. It is believed that the victim was walking east in the curb lane of eastbound Memorial Drive, between the Bridgeland and Zoo LRT stations, when at 8:37 a.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, the Volkswagen Jetta pulled over and the victim got inside the vehicle. We are asking anyone who may have dashcam footage and was travelling on Memorial Drive between Edmonton Trail and 36 Street N.E., on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, between 8:35 and 8:45 a.m., to contact police.

“We need the public’s help to locate this vehicle and the registered owner as soon as possible” says Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “At this time, we are investigating the possibility that this was a random attack. While we don’t believe there are additional safety concerns for Calgarians, we are exhausting all measures to locate the suspects.”
