Suspicious death being investigated as a homicide

We continue to investigate the death of a man who was found dead yesterday morning after exiting a vehicle in the intersection of Memorial Drive and 36 Street N.E. At this time, investigators believe the man was the victim of a homicide.

We are urging anyone who was in the area of 36 Street N.E., and Memorial Drive yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, at approximately 8:50 a.m., to contact investigators. It is believed that the victim exited the vehicle, possibly a 2019 to 2020 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, while the car was stopped at a red light. It is also believed that the vehicle involved had a sticker with the text "JESUS" affixed to the car's rear bumper, under the licence plate. A photo of the vehicle and an image of a sticker similar to the one seen on the vehicle are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

“The surrounding intersection was busy at the time of the incident and it is likely that witnesses can help to identify the vehicle involved,” says Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta of the CPS Homicide Unit. “Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have captured the vehicle, or it’s licence plate, on a dash cam is asked to come forward. Sometimes even the smallest amount of information is crucial in helping us solve these types of investigations.”

An autopsy will be completed today, Wednesday, Oct, 7, 2020, by The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The victim’s identity will be released upon completion of the autopsy.

This is Calgary’s 27th homicide.
