Police warn of attempted child luring

We are asking the public for their help in identifying an unknown man who is believed to have attempted to lure a young child in the city’s northwest.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., today, Monday, June 17, 2024, we were called to an area near the David Richardson Memorial Disc Golf Park for reports of an attempted child luring.

Students from a nearby school attended the park for a field trip and were split into three groups. One student left her group to join another group, when a man approached her from behind, restrained her arms and attempted to pull her into a wooded area. The girl was able to scream and kick the man, causing him to release her. She safely fled the area and reported the incident to teachers.

The man is described as having a light complexion, and was wearing black jeans, a black leather jacket, black leather gloves, black shoes with white soles and a baseball cap.

We ask that members of the public exercise increased awareness if they, or their children, are visiting Royal Vista or the surrounding area.
