Police investigate single-vehicle collision on Deerfoot Trail southeast
Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a single-vehicle collision that occurred on the Deerfoot Trail and Seton Boulevard S.E. interchange, yesterday afternoon.
On Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025, at approximately 1:25 p.m., a 2010 Cobra, being operated by a man in his 50s, was travelling southbound on Deerfoot Trail S.E.
As the vehicle approached the overpass for Seton Boulevard S.E., the lanes reduced, and the vehicle began to travel on the righthand shoulder of the roadway.
The vehicle then struck a temporary sign for road construction, before rotating and hitting the cable fence separating traffic from the Seton Boulevard S.E. ramp.
The vehicle continued on the grassy median and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
The vehicle then struck a concrete wall and came to a rest on the south side of the overpass.
The passenger of the vehicle, a man in his 30s, sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital.
At this time, it is believed excessive speed may be a contributing factor in the collision. Impairment is not believed to be a factor.
