Police investigate serious-injury collision in the city’s northeast

We continue to investigate a collision that occurred this morning leaving a senior in life-threatening condition.

At approximately 7:40 a.m., today, Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, a serious-injury collision occurred at the intersection of 68 Street N.E. and 12 Avenue N.E.

At the time, it is believed a 69-year-old woman used a marked crosswalk to cross 68 Street N.E., when a Mitsubishi Outlander, being operated by a 62-year-old man, was travelling south on 68 Street N.E., and struck the woman.

The Mitsubishi came to a stop on the south side of the crosswalk and the driver remained at the scene.

The woman sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Neither excessive speed or impairment are considered to be factors in this collision.

The driver failing to yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk is considered a factor in this collision.

No charges have been laid at this time and the Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
