Police investigate multi-vehicle collision involving cyclist

We continue to investigate a collision that occurred earlier this week in the city’s southeast.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, a collision involving three vehicles and a bicycle occurred at the intersection of Canyon Meadows Drive S.E. and Parkland Boulevard S.E.

At the time, a Ford Focus, operated by a 29-year-old woman, was travelling west on Canyon Meadows Drive S.E., toward Parkland Boulevard S.E.

At the same time, a Toyota Landcruiser, operated by a 26-year-old man, was travelling east on Canyon Meadows Drive S.E., toward Parkland Boulevard S.E.

Additionally, a Subaru Crosstrek, operated by a 43-year-old man, was travelling north on Parkland Boulevard S.E., toward Canyon Meadows Drive S.E. Next to the Subaru, a bicycle, ridden by a 63-year-old man, was travelling in the same direction.

The Toyota entered the intersection while the Ford was turning left, encroaching into the path of the Toyota, and these two vehicles collided. It is believed the driver of the Toyota failed to stop at a red light.

The Toyota was deflected and struck the cyclist and the Subaru.

As a result, the cyclist sustained serious injuries and the driver of the Subaru sustained minor injuries. The drivers and passengers in other vehicles involved were not injured.

Speed, alcohol or drugs are not considered to be factors in the collision. The Ford turning into the path of the Toyota and the Toyota failing to stop at a red light are believed to be factors in this collision.
