Police investigate fatal collision on Stoney Trail
Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a single-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a man on Stoney Trail in the city’s northeast.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, a collision occurred near Stoney Trail and McKnight Boulevard N.E.
At the time, a 2021 Ford Edge, operated by a 50-year-old man, was travelling southbound on Stoney Trail N.E., nearing the McKnight Boulevard N.E., overpass. The vehicle left the roadway heading right and continued off the road, through the grass ditch, until it hit an overpass support beam on the west side of Stoney Trail N.E.
The impact occurred at a high speed and the driver was declared deceased at the scene.
Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in this collision. Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be factors in this collision.
