Police investigate fatal collision on Deerfoot Trail

Earlier today, we responded to a serious collision on the Calf Robe Bridge that sadly resulted in the death of a Calgary man.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., today, Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, we were called for reports of a serious collision that occurred in the southbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail S.E. along the Calf Robe Bridge.

Upon arrival, it appeared the operator of a motorcycle had been struck and was located unresponsive on the roadway. Sadly, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It is believed the victim, a 39-year-old man, was riding his motorcycle in the middle lane traveling southbound on Deerfoot Trail S.E. along the Calf Robe Bridge when he braked sharply in response to slowing traffic. As a result, he lost control of the motorcycle and it fell over on to its right side, partially entering into the far-right lane.

While the driver attempted to pick up the motorcycle and get back on it, another motorcycle, being driven by a 44-year-old man, struck the victim.

The 44-year-old man was transported to hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.

Neither excessive speed, alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors in this collision.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Anyone who may have information or dashcam footage of this incident is asked to contact police at the non-emergency number at 403-266-1234.
