Police investigate fatal collision in the city’s southwest
Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred early this morning in the city’s deep south.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. today, Sunday, July 13, 2025, we responded to a collision on 194 Avenue S.W., near the intersection with Macleod Trail South.
Investigators believe that around that time, a 2004 BMW 320i, driven by an 18-year-old man, was travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on 194 Avenue S.W. While crossing a bridge over railway tracks, the vehicle began to rotate counter-clockwise on the east side of the bridge, mounted a raised centre median, and struck a light pole.
The man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was declared deceased at the scene.
Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision. Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors at this time.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
