Police equipment stolen from vehicle

We are alerting the public to the theft of police equipment in the interest of public safety and awareness for the potential fraudulent use of the police-identified clothing.

On Tuesday, June 14, 2022, an unmarked, on-duty police vehicle was parked in the downtown core. When officers returned to the vehicle, they discovered a number of items had been taken from the vehicle:

  • A large, black, Ready Vest, with a police patch on the front and back, including fitted soft-armour panels. The Ready Vest was equipped with:
    • Two full Glock 9mm magazines
    • Silver Smith & Wesson handcuffs
    • U.S. Armor Molle pouches for magazines
  • Police issued black radio holder (no radio)
  • Police issued baton
  • Police issued Cannon binoculars with a black case

Photos of similar equipment can be found on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

The investigation into how the vehicle was accessed, and who might have been in the area at the time is ongoing. In the meantime, we wanted to alert the public for the purposes of garnering information in relation to the theft, as well as for awareness in relation to how this equipment might be used.

Anyone with concerns about the authenticity of a police officer approaching them is asked to contact Calgary 911 to verify the identity of the officer. Every officer is required to carry their badge and identify themselves either by last name or regimental number when asked by a member of the public they are interacting with.

“We understand this may cause alarm and concern for the community and we have dedicated several resources to this investigation in hopes of quickly recovering this equipment,” says Staff Sergeant Mark Auger, Calgary Police Service’s General Investigations Unit. “If you are ever concerned about the authenticity of an officer you are dealing with, do not hesitate to contact Calgary 911 to verify their identity.”

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the equipment, is asked to contact the police non-emergency number 403-266-1234. Tips can also be left anonymously through Crime Stoppers:
