Police charge teenager following suspected overdose deaths

We have charged a 17-year-old with several drug offences following two suspected overdose deaths that occurred earlier this year.

In May and June of 2025, it is believed that two people fatally overdosed on the Tsuut’ina Nation.

Police officers were able to identify potential drug traffickers and the Calgary Police Service Drug Unit launched a five-month investigation. 

Calgary police determined that a 17-year-old boy was selling cocaine, often conducting the exchanges during his school lunch break.

On Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, police arrested the youth, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

A search warrant executed at a residence resulted in the seizure of cellphones, cash, scales, bear spray, cocaine, and methamphetamine.

The youth is now charged with:

·       Eight counts of trafficking of a controlled substance

·       Seven counts of possession of property obtained by crime

·       Two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

·       One count of carrying a concealed weapon

·       One count of possession of identity documents

The youth will appear in court on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025.

“It’s critical that those who sell drugs are held accountable for their actions”, says Inspector Jeff Pennoyer of the Calgary Police Service Criminal Networks Section. “This case is particularly disturbing since the accused is so young. We are glad we were able to get the accused, and drugs off the streets.”
