Police charge man in 2021 fatal hit-and-run

After a lengthily investigation, police have charged a 46-year-old man in relation to a hit-and-run dating back to October 2021, that left one man dead.

At approximately 2:15 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, a pedestrian was in the westbound lanes of 50 Avenue S.W., between 1 Street S.W. and Macleod Trail, when a light-colored pick-up truck travelling westbound along 50 Avenue struck him.

The truck then continued through the intersection of Macleod Trail, turned right and fled the area. The driver of the truck failed to return to the scene.

The pedestrian, a 35-year-old man, was discovered by a passing rideshare driver at around 2:35 a.m. He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and later died as a result of his injuries.

Later in October 2021, police arrested a man in relation to the hit-and-run, and seized a silver 2007 Dodge Ram that was believed to be involved in the incident.

As a result, police have now charged a 46-year-old man from Calgary with one count each of hit-and-run and hit-and-run causing death.
