Police again ask patrons of Mazaj for help

Homicide investigators are renewing their call for people to contact us if they were in Mazaj Lounge & Restaurant, located at 9223 Macleod Trail S.W., between 7 p.m., and closing on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021.

Emergency crews were called to the business that night around 11:20 p.m., for reports of a man in medical distress in the parking lot. Our officers and EMS arrived to find 32-year-old Daniel DUDGEON dead on scene.

His death is being investigated as a homicide and we are still needing to speak with anyone who was at Mazaj that evening as people may have significant information and not realize it. So far, we have only heard from one person who was a patron that night.

“We often see cases where multiple people have small pieces of seemingly insignificant information that become a critical lead when all the pieces are put together,” said Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “That is why it is so important that people don’t decide for themselves what is worth telling us, because they might decide not to give us some information that could be the last piece we need for the puzzle to make sense.”

Investigators conduct the vast majority of these type of witness interviews through a brief phone conversation. We want to speak to anyone who was there during those hours, whether they believe they witnessed anything or not.

Anyone with information or witnesses the homicide is asked to call the Homicide Tip Line at 403-428-8877, or the CPS non-emergency line at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
