Officer-involved shooting in Highwood

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after an officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier this morning in northwest Calgary.

At approximately 4 a.m., today, Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, police were called to the 200 block of Hendon Drive N.W., for reports of an unknown man in a box truck who had struck a home and other parked vehicles.

When responding units arrived, a confrontation occurred and due to the rapidly changing dynamics, one officer discharged their Service weapon. As a result of negotiation efforts and other tactics, the man was subsequently taken into custody.

The man was immediately given medical care and has since been transported to hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

No officers were injured during the incident.
