Housefire in Glendale

On April 22, 2025, at approximately 2:30AM the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to a 911 call in the southwest community of Glendale for a housefire.  On arrival at the 2200 block of Glenmount Drive SW, first arriving crews were met by one adult and two children that had evacuated their detached single-story, single-family home.  Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the front door and made entry.  Crews found fire in the common areas of the home, and dense smoke throughout the entire structure.  Firefighters were able to locate the fire and quickly bring it under control while simultaneously searching for additional occupants. 

Firefighters searching were able to locate 2 dogs and one guinea pig and remove them from the home.  Fire crews applied lifesaving resuscitation measures to one dog and were able to revive it.  The second dog was unharmed as well as the guinea pig.  Calgary Police Service assisted crews by taking the revived dog to an emergency veterinarian. 

Damage from the fire was concentrated to the common spaces of the home, however smoke damage was extensive throughout the entire house.  The home will be unable to reoccupy at this time. 

Atco and Enmax were on scene assisting CFD with utility isolation, and EMS was standing by on scene.  Fire investigators are on site working with crews to determine the cause of the fire. 

Working smoke alarms save lives.  The Calgary Fire Department reminds Calgarians to ensure they have working smoke alarms in their homes and have an escape plan.
